Leading with purpose: Insights from four women shaping FareHarbor

In this special interview, we’re thrilled to spotlight four of our incredible female leaders: Adi Pogolansky, Abena Higgins, Michelle Jenkins, & Bianca Mussi

In the fast-paced world of travel technology, leadership takes many forms — but at FareHarbor, it’s driven by a commitment to innovation, collaboration, and a passion for problem-solving. In this special interview, we’re thrilled to spotlight four of our incredible female leaders:

  • Adi Pogolansky, Vice President of Product
  • Abena Higgins, Chief of Staff
  • Michelle Jenkins, Vice President of People
  • Bianca Mussi, Vice President of Commercial Distribution

From navigating unexpected career paths to leading high-performing teams, each of these women brings unique perspectives and experiences to their roles. They share what excites them most about their work, the philosophies that guide them, and the adventures they’re dreaming about next.

Whether you’re looking for leadership insights, career inspiration, or a behind-the-scenes look at the powerhouse team driving FareHarbor forward, this conversation is for you. Let’s dive in!

What was your path like to your position today? Was this role always in the plan?

Adi: The path was not a linear one as with any journey filled with unexpected turns, highs, and lows. Every step brought new challenges and learning  — some I sought out, and others I had to figure out along the way.

While studying engineering at university, I took on a project management role in a B2B SaaS company and I was exposed there to the Product Management org. I was hooked. I knew that was where I wanted to be. But knowing wasn’t enough — I had to prove myself.

Determined to make it happen and switch into product, I pushed (and probably drove my former VP of Product a little crazy) until I finally got my shot: The opportunity to build a new product with the support of two engineers without any title change. That was my first foot in the door, and the rest is history.

As for this role, I can’t say it was always the plan, but I’ve always been drawn to leadership, problem-solving, and creating impact at scale. When the opportunity came to take on this role at FareHarbor, it felt like the natural next step.

Abena: My path to Chief of Staff wasn’t something I mapped out early in my career, but in hindsight, it makes perfect sense for where I am now.

I’ve always been drawn to roles that blend communications, relationships, operations, and leadership — where I can connect the dots between teams, drive alignment, and ensure we execute on what matters most.

I started in account management at advertising and marketing agencies, which built a strong foundation in stakeholder management and attention to detail. When I moved into educational advocacy and lobbying, I had to develop management, leadership, and operational skills to drive impact effectively. Relocating to Amsterdam meant stepping away from electoral and issue campaigns, but when the opportunity to serve in this role arose, it felt like the perfect intersection of my skills and experience.

Michelle: My career path, like most, has been a mix of intentional steps and unexpected opportunities. Believe it or not, my journey into HR started in college with a personality test. At the time, I didn’t fully understand what HR was or the science behind personality assessments, but it led me to study business and HR — subjects I quickly realized I enjoyed the most.

Early in my career, I gravitated toward roles that allowed me to support, develop, and advocate for employees. I can’t say I always envisioned being in the position I hold today or that it was part of a long-term plan, but I did know one thing: I wanted to make an impact on how organizations build culture, engage talent, and drive performance.

Over the years, I gained experience across various HR functions — HR operations, employee relations, leadership development, and organizational strategy. Each role added a new layer of expertise and broadened my perspective on how HR influences business success.

Some of these steps were intentional, while others were opportunities I hadn’t planned for. But by embracing each challenge and continuing to build my expertise, I developed the skills necessary to do what I do today.  And even now, I continue to learn and grow, as HR — and the workplace itself — constantly evolves.

Bianca: This was definitely not my initial plan. I started my career in hardcore investment banking where I thought I would stay forever! It was a crucial first step to develop my analytical skills and resilience and it was an amazing first job.

But I started very young and after completing my MBA I wanted to expand my horizons and broaden my skillset. I joined McKinsey as a strategy consultant which was another fantastic school that gave me exposure to so many different topics and sectors.

However, after two advisory types of roles, I realized I wanted more hands-on action. After a start-up experience, I landed at Booking.com where I was brought in to turnaround a partnerships team and implement more structure. I ended up spending about 6 years there and seeing so much growth and change. From there I had the chance to start the global partnerships function at JustEat Takeaway from scratch and now I am back in the travel industry leading the distribution team at FareHarbor.

What do you love most about your position?

FareHarbor Podcast

Adi: The ability to create, build, and experiment with different products, processes, and opportunities keeps the work exciting — no two days are the same. But what I love most is not just the impact of our work, but who I get to do it with. I’m lucky to work with smart, caring, and interesting people from the Product org and throughout FareHarbor who make every day more enjoyable.

Seeing our work translate into real impact for our clients makes it all the more rewarding.

Abena: Definitely the variety and impact. No two days are the same, and I love that my work touches so many aspects of FareHarbor — whether it’s driving critical initiatives, shaping internal communication, or helping leadership as they make better, faster decisions.

I also love the bird’s-eye view of the business; it allows me to see how different pieces come together and make meaningful improvements. And, of course, working closely with Andrea and the Leadership Team is incredibly rewarding — there’s a real sense of momentum and purpose in what we do and I learn a ton every day.

Michelle: One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is the ability to make a meaningful impact — on employees, leadership, and the organization as a whole. HR sits at the intersection of people and business strategy, and I love being in a position where I can help create an environment where employees feel valued, supported, and empowered to do their best work.

I also enjoy the variety — no two days are the same and that’s what keeps it exciting. Whether it’s developing initiatives to enhance company culture, solving complex challenges, or coaching leaders on how to bring out the best in their teams, there’s always an opportunity to make a difference.

But what I love most is seeing the direct impact of our work — when employees feel engaged, leaders grow in their roles, and the organization thrives because of the people within it. That’s what keeps me motivated every day.

Bianca: There are two aspects of my role that are my biggest drivers. The first is to lead such amazing teams. Helping them grow, achieve great results together, and solve problems is what makes me excited about coming to work. I am very focused on the team impact and making them as high performing as possible while having fun, learning, and developing.

The other aspect is working with so many different partners and thinking collaboratively with them on how to create value. This external view, collaboration, and relationship building have always motivated me and make me love what I do.

Is there a quote that you always go back to or that has impacted your life?

Adi: Professionally it will be “Fall in love with the problem, not the solution.” It’s a constant reminder that great products start with deeply understanding the problem, not just jumping to build something that seems like a good idea. In product, it’s easy to get attached to features or roadmaps, but the real value comes from staying on top of what truly matters to users. When we stay focused on solving real problems, we build things that make a real impact. Personally, there’s a saying in Hebrew: “If it’s meant to be, it will be” —  Some things are out of our control, and stressing over them won’t change the outcome.

Abena: One that always resonates with me is: “You can do anything, but not everything.” This is more of a do as I say vs do as I do — I’m trying to get better at living by this quote, but I’m not there yet. In a fast-paced company like FareHarbor and in a role like mine, it’s easy to get caught up in the urgent rather than the important. This quote reminds me to stay focused on long-term priorities, even when short-term demands are pressing.

Michelle: You know, I’ve never been someone who can recall quote after quote — except maybe a funny movie line here or there. But one of the CEOs I worked with had a set of guiding principles and values, and one that has always stuck with me is: “If you’re not uncomfortable, you’re not growing.”

That simple statement has shaped the way I approach challenges, leadership, and personal development. Growth doesn’t happen in comfort zones — it happens when we take on new responsibilities, embrace change, and push ourselves beyond what feels easy. Looking back, some of the most pivotal moments in my career were the ones that stretched me the most.

Bianca: “Everyone is fighting a fight you know nothing about, so always be kind.” I really believe in the power of being kind to people, not judging and putting myself in other’s shoes. Empathy can go a long way.

What is your bucket list tour and activities experience?

Adi: A helicopter tour over the Great Barrier Reef in Australia is at the top of my bucket list. This year, our bigger trip will be to South Korea, so if you have any recommendations let me know!

Abena: Two answers — I haven’t made a real dent in Asia yet. I’d love to do a trip through Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam — exploring the food, history, and landscapes. At the same time, I absolutely love east and southern African safaris, so I’d like to experience one in Sri Lanka, where I could see elephants, leopards, and diverse wildlife in a completely different setting.

Michelle: Seeing the Northern Lights has always been high on my bucket list. There’s something truly captivating and almost magical about the natural phenomenon.  Later this month, my family and I are heading on a trip in hopes to experience it first-hand.  I can’t wait for the experience, and I know it will be one of those moments we’ll talk about for years to come.

Bianca: I would love to do a road trip in the US national parks (Yosemite, Sequoia, Grand Canyon) with my family and do many different types of activities there. Maybe combining that with the WorldCup in North America in 2026.

What are you looking to experience more of in 2025?

Adi: In 2025, I want to spend more time outdoors. We recently got a golden retriever puppy, and we’re looking forward to exploring more — going on hikes and discovering new trails throughout Europe. Slow down, be present, and enjoy nature more.

Abena: More opportunities for deep learning and meaningful connections. 2024 was a year of significant change and movement — both at work and in my personal life. In 2025, I want to dedicate more time to myself, focusing on learning from others, sharing knowledge, and contributing to FareHarbor and my community in meaningful ways. Personally, I’m also excited to keep exploring (maybe even improving my Dutch!) and making time for experiences that bring both joy and growth.

Michelle: Last year was about learning the ropes — this year is about getting things done. In 2024, I was new to my role, focused on understanding the organization, building relationships, and setting a strong foundation. Now, in 2025, it’s time to execute.

Personally, I also want to be intentional about making space for experiences that matter — whether that’s quality time with family, checking off bucket list adventures, or just embracing the moments in between.

Bianca: I am really looking forward to getting a lot closer to (affiliate) partners and helping my team to develop relationships and grow their business. There are many opportunities in the distribution space and we are so well positioned to take a leading role. I am also hoping to visit my team in Hawaii and experience the unique FareHarbor ecosystem there (and a lot of client experience too!).

Adi, Abena, Michelle, and Bianca have shown that leadership is about adaptability, problem-solving, and driving meaningful change. From shaping product innovation to fostering strong teams and partnerships, their insights highlight the power of passion and purpose in building a successful career.

Thank you to these inspiring leaders for sharing their journeys — here’s to another year of growth, innovation, and impact at FareHarbor!
