How Ahous Adventures turned eco-cultural tourism into growth

Ahous Adventures needed a website that could authentically reflect Ahousaht culture while helping more guests discover and book their tours. With FareHarbor Sites, they created an online experience that improved visibility, conversions, and revenue.

“The [FareHarbor Sites] team was supportive, responsive, and genuinely interested in understanding our vision and values.”

Ahous Adventures

For Ahous Adventures, every tour is rooted in connection.Owned and operated by the ʕaaḥuusʔatḥ Nation on the west coast of Vancouver Island, Ahous Adventures offers eco-cultural and wildlife experiences throughout Ahousaht territory.

Guests can visit Hot Springs Cove, spot whales and bears, or hike Lone Cone Mountain, but the experiences go beyond sightseeing. Through each tour, Ahous Adventures shares Ahousaht culture, language, history, and storytelling while introducing visitors to the values that guide their relationship with the land and water.

Values such as iisaakst̓ (respecting one another), Yaaʔakst̓ (caring for one another), and Hišukʔiš c̓awaak (everything is interconnected) are woven throughout every experience.By sharing their perspective and stewardship practices with guests, the team hopes visitors leave with a deeper understanding of both the natural environment and the people who have cared for it for generations.

The challenge: Bringing Ahousaht values online

As Ahous Adventures continued to grow, the team wanted their online presence to reflect the same experience guests would have once they arrived.

“Sharing our territories and culture is deeply meaningful because these lands and waters are not simply places we visit — they are home,” Courtenay explained.

The team needed a website that could clearly communicate both the adventure and cultural importance of their offerings. It was also important to reach the right audience: guests who value authentic cultural experiences, respectful wildlife viewing, and meaningful connections to Ahousaht territory and teachings.

“It was very important that our website authentically reflected our Ahousaht values, culture, and connection to our homelands,” Courtenay shared. “We wanted the online presence to feel welcoming, respectful, and grounded in Hišukʔiš c̓awaak.”

They also wanted to create a smoother experience for guests from the moment they discovered Ahous Adventures online.

The solution: A website built around culture and connection

Ahous Adventures partnered with FareHarbor Sites to bring that vision to life.

The goal was to create a website that felt aligned with the business, the community, and the guest experience. That meant showcasing Ahousaht language, storytelling, history, and stewardship alongside the tours themselves, while making it easier for guests to explore and book.

“Our experience working with the FareHarbor Sites team has been very positive,” Courtenay said. “The team was supportive, responsive, and genuinely interested in understanding our vision and values. They were collaborative throughout the process and helped create a website that feels aligned with our brand, our community, and the guest experience we strive to provide.”

With FareHarbor Sites, Ahous Adventures gained an online presence designed to support both storytelling and growth.

The results: Visibility turned into growth

Following the launch of their FareHarbor website, Ahous Adventures saw measurable improvements across traffic, search visibility, conversions, and revenue.

The results included:

  • 45% increase in total revenue
  • 31% increase in total website traffic
  • 39% growth in organic search visitors
  • 16.6% higher ecommerce conversion rate
  • 200% more top-three Google rankings
  • 47% expansion in overall keyword visibility

The website didn’t just help more travelers find Ahous Adventures. It helped the team connect with the types of guests they were hoping to reach — travelers interested in authentic cultural experiences and meaningful connections to Ahousaht territory.

“Many guests tell us they leave with a greater understanding of the history and ongoing presence of Indigenous communities on the west coast,” Courtenay shared. “ Being able to share that understanding through cultural exchange, respect, and learning is something we are deeply proud of.”

By creating a website that better reflected their values, culture, and experiences, Ahous Adventures was able to turn increased visibility into meaningful business growth.
